Terms of Service

Last updated: October 7, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Since AI platform, including the website at sinceai.app and any related services. By using our platform, you agree to these terms. Since AI ry is a registered non-profit association in Finland (Business ID: 3593920-2).

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the Since AI platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the platform.

2. Community Guidelines

All users of the Since AI platform agree to:

  • Treat other participants with respect and professionalism
  • Contribute constructively to events and discussions
  • Respect the intellectual property of others
  • Refrain from harassment, discrimination, or abusive behaviour
  • Comply with the rules of any third-party platforms used (e.g. Discord)

Violations may result in removal from events and permanent suspension of your account.

3. Account Registration

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account and use the platform. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Since AI reserves the right to terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Event Participation

Participation in Since AI hackathons and events requires:

  • Registration through the platform and acceptance of any event-specific rules
  • Compliance with venue policies and instructions from organisers
  • Respectful conduct towards sponsors, partners, and fellow participants

Since AI reserves the right to disqualify participants or teams for rule violations at its sole discretion.

5. Submissions and Intellectual Property

5.1 Ownership. Except as set out in section 5.3 for Challenge Partner challenges, projects submitted to Since AI hackathons remain the intellectual property of their creators. Since AI does not claim ownership of submissions.

5.2 Since AI's licence. By submitting a project, you grant Since AI a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to feature your project name, description, and publicly available materials for promotional purposes (e.g. on our website or social media).

5.3 Challenge Partner challenges — transfer of new work. Some hackathon challenges are set by partner companies (“Challenge Partners”). Unless the challenge states that section 5.4 applies instead, by entering a Challenge Partner's challenge you transfer to that Challenge Partner, on submission, all transferable economic intellectual property rights in the new work you create specifically for that challenge during the event (“Challenge Work”) — including the code, designs, documentation, presentation materials and other deliverables you submit to that challenge. The transfer is worldwide, perpetual and royalty-free, and includes the right to use, modify, further develop, sublicense and commercially exploit the Challenge Work without restriction. To the extent any right in the Challenge Work cannot be transferred under applicable law, you grant the Challenge Partner an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence of equivalent scope, and you agree not to assert any non-transferable moral rights against the Challenge Partner's customary use of the Challenge Work. Acceptance of this term by every person whose work is included in the submission is a condition of entering a partner challenge.

5.4 Challenge Partner challenges — licence only. Where a challenge is marked on the platform as a licence challenge, section 5.3 does not apply. Instead, by entering that challenge you and your team keep ownership of the Challenge Work and grant the Challenge Partner a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive and royalty-free licence to use, modify, further develop and exploit the Challenge Work in its business. The IP terms that apply are shown on the challenge before you accept them.

5.5 What you keep. Sections 5.3 and 5.4 cover only new work created specifically for the challenge during the event. They do not transfer or license:

  • your pre-existing or background intellectual property — anything you or your team created before the event or outside the challenge, even if it is included in or used by the submission;
  • generic tools, libraries, frameworks, models, templates, methods, skills and know-how of general application, which remain yours, whether or not they are used in the Challenge Work; or
  • third-party and open-source material, which remains subject to its existing licence terms and is not transferred by these terms.

Where the Challenge Work necessarily incorporates your background intellectual property, you grant the Challenge Partner a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use that background intellectual property only as part of, and to the extent needed to use, the Challenge Work. You remain free to use the ideas, skills and experience gained during the challenge in your future work.

5.6 Your confirmations. By submitting to a Challenge Partner's challenge, each contributor confirms that they have the rights necessary to submit what they contribute and to transfer or license it as set out above; that the Challenge Work is their own or their team's original work; that it does not, to their knowledge, infringe third-party rights; and that any open-source or third-party components are used in a way compatible with the rights given to the Challenge Partner. You are responsible for identifying open-source components and their licences in your submission.

5.7 Delivery to Challenge Partners. You agree that Since AI may deliver your submission to a challenge — including code repositories, documentation and presentation materials — to the relevant Challenge Partner during and after the event. Since AI is not a party to the transfer or licence between you and the Challenge Partner and gives no warranty about it.

5.8 Confidentiality. Challenge Partners may provide data, documentation or other material marked as confidential. You may not disclose, publish or use such material outside the challenge without the Challenge Partner's written consent. This obligation continues after the event.

5.9 Since AI branding. The Since AI name, logo, and branding materials are the property of Since AI ry and may not be used without prior written permission.

5.10 Version. This section is versioned. The platform records, for each person and each challenge, which version was accepted and when. If this section changes, you will be asked to accept the new version before your next submission or edit.

6. Partnerships and Sponsorships

Partnership and sponsorship agreements are subject to separate written contracts. Enquiries submitted through our contact form or platform do not constitute binding agreements.

7. Disclaimer

Since AI provides its platform and events “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the platform will be available at all times or that events will proceed as planned. Hackathon prizes are awarded at the discretion of the organisers based on the published criteria.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Finnish law, Since AI ry shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform or participation in events, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

9. Changes to These Terms

Since AI may update these terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes and update the date at the top of this page. Where a change requires renewed acceptance, we will ask you to accept the revised terms before the affected activity.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the platform shall be resolved in the courts of Turku, Finland.
